Nanjing 2025.1.13

You were asleep on the high-speed train to Nanjing. Though you always said your side profile doesn’t look good, you were really adorable when sleeping—wrapped in that thick down jacket, you looked just like a fluffy bun.

First, we went to Hongshan Forest Zoo, where we saw the super cute raccoons. Back at the hotel, we ordered takeout from Nanjing Restaurant (a renowned local eatery). In the afternoon, we visited Jiming Temple. I never knew what made Jiming Temple so special, nor did I pray seriously there. It wasn’t until after we got back that I learned there’s a saying: "Visiting Jiming Temple once leads to three years of being single." But it seems like this saying had no effect on you at all.

The sycamore trees in autumn were beautiful too. We wandered around a mall in the evening, and on our way back, we bought some barbecue. Little did we know then that we would be eating barbecue every single day for the next few days. Still, those moments were so blissful—sitting with you, eating barbecue and drinking together.

As usual, we rented an e-bike to go to Zhongshan Mountain. We heard that e-bikes are not allowed there now, so we were really lucky. We came back to have duck blood vermicelli soup and eat at Jintong Ji again! By the Qinhuai River, we spotted a bar where someone was singing and there was a bonfire burning—what a great atmosphere it had!

Today we went to the Nanjing Museum. I really thought you were sweet—even though it seemed like you didn’t have much interest in museums, you still went with me. Some of the cultural relics there were pretty nice, though; the only downside was that there were way too many people! Right after we got out, we bought grilled sausages, black rice balls, and plum cakes. The black rice balls were delicious, but the plum cakes were terrible! Not nearly as good as the ones in Taizhou. And before we knew it, we passed by Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA).

In the afternoon, we visited the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. We had originally planned to go to the Presidential Palace too, but we got there too late—so we just took some photos at the entrance. The yellow walls there were quite nice, though.

We went shopping at a mall again in the evening. It feels like Muji (Muji Holdings, Ltd.) has become a must-visit spot in every mall. We bought some beer and walked back to the hotel while chatting—we can really talk for hours on end. And of course, we didn’t forget to get barbecue.

We went to Niushou Mountain, where the leaves had already turned red. In the evening, we had dinner at Nanjing Restaurant with your classmate, but I caught a cold because I refused to wear thick clothes in the past few days. (I really don’t like thick clothes—I feel they make it hard to move around...)

We went to have xiaolongbao (steamed soup dumplings) and visited Deji Plaza in the end, then took the high-speed train to leave in the afternoon.
